Off-Duty Cops Toss Their Lunch Aside To Fix A Womans Broken Boat Hitch

By  |

Whether or not an officer is in their uniform or on the clock, they are still always ready to help their fellow citizens at a moment’s notice. The altruistic nature is ingrained in the best cops long before they even enroll in the academy.

That’s something Victoria, TX, residentBeverly Kellis-Richard learned firsthand while making her way through Liberty, TX, with her brand new boat following right behind her on a trailer hitched to the back of her pickup truck. With her neighbor Brenda joining her for the roughly three-hour journey, she was pretty far from her own town when she noticed a snag in her latch.

Of course, just because the women weren’t from the county, a group of hardworking men from the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office were happy to help when they noticed the pair struggling to fix the unfortunate situation.

Kellis-Richardwas so moved by their selfless assistance that she shared the whole story on her Facebook page.

The avid fisherwoman was definitely anxious to bring her new boat back to her home near the border of Texas and the Gulf of Mexico where she clearly has honed her talents at reeling in great catches.

I have to admit, growing up with my dad as a pretty avid fisherman too, I was always pretty skeptical of the way a trailer like this one could hold the vessel so securely every time we took a trip out to the lake.

Unfortunately for Beverly Kellis-Richard, it wasn’t the trailer that caused a problem when she passed through Cleveland, TX, during her ride, but the latch that hitched it to her truck.

Luckily,a group of Liberty County officers happened to be having lunch at the Taco Bell whereKellis-Richard pulled over to examine the issue.

All five of the uniformed but off-duty men stepped up to swiftly fix the latch and get them back on the road.

According to the comments on her post, which she shared with a message saying, “Let’s see this go viral!” it’s a level of care and dedication that the residents of Liberty County have come to expect when it comes to their amazing officers.

One woman was even able to recognize a friend of hers among the helpful crew of policemen. It’s always nice to see someone going out of their way to make a difference in someone else’s life. They might have been strangers, but they didn’t let that didn’t get in the way of spreading kindness.
