10 Times When Workplace Safety Was Ignored

By  |

Work can be a real hazard, which is why the US Department of Labor came up with OSHA to keep people safe on the job. But sometimes folks take shortcuts to get the job done and end up with some pretty hilarious – but dangerous – consequences. From wobbly ladders to some seriously questionable safety practices, here’s a look at a few people who treat OSHA’s rules like suggestions.

1. Looking At Things From A New Angle

This dude’s got mad spatial skills, or he’s a physics prodigy. Either way, he’s got an interesting approach to getting the job done. But let’s be honest – what if that glass shatters? Ah, well, all in the name of science, right?

2. The stairway to Heaven

Dude, that stairway just might lead straight to heaven if he takes a tumble. At least the truck might break his fall. But seriously, with no one around to keep an eye on him, this guy’s breaking every work safety rule in the book.

3. “Don’t worry, I went to clown school!”

That’s a pretty impressive effort, props to that dude! He’s seriously skilled. But maybe he should take his talents to the circus instead. This pic has all the makings of a disaster waiting to happen. Getting fired might just be a blessing in disguise in this case.

4. Does anybody need some tires?

Need new tires for your ride? No worries, hold tight. These tires will eventually fall off. Just keep your distance, and you’ll snag some tires. But, wait, is that a fishing net around ’em? Time to call it quits, bro. (Pun totally intended).

5. Get your head out of his &%$

Another classic example of why you can always count on your co-workers to get the job done. But, come on, dude, stairs would’ve been a better option—at least the construction guy on the bottom’s rockin’ a hard hat. Let’s hope his buddy up top didn’t go too hard on lunch.

6. Starting from the bottom

Dude looks like we’ve stumbled upon a new sport: bathroom climbing. If you’re into rock climbing, this bathroom’s for you. If not, time to start practicing. You might go in for a pee, come out with a broken arm, or call Spider-Man for backup.

7. Hang in there!

Humans can do some wild stuff when trying to get to hard-to-reach places. This dude’s dedication is impressive, but he’s seriously risking it all—thumbs up for the effort, but a big thumbs down for breaking the rules.

8. Electric issues

This guy wins the award for being the biggest dope of the year. But hey, if you’re ever stuck at a flooded, electrically messed up campground, call on him to save the day. This looks more like a suicide mission than a day at work.

9. Will it hold?

Hey, here’s another engineering innovation. But let’s be real, winging it doesn’t always turn out great. Nevertheless, it brings up an interesting point. What do you do when the brick foundation of a building is on the verge of crumbling? One guy’s solution is to wrap it in plastic, but that’s definitely not the right move. It’s probably the riskiest solution out there.

10. Don’t worry; he has a spotter!

Wood chippers are dangerous, duh. And crawling into one, even if it’s off, is just asking for trouble. We get that the worker’s friend is trying to be helpful by keeping an eye on him while he fixes it or clears a jam, but there gotta be safer ways to do the job.
