Brazilian Artist Lovingly Crafts Old Tires Into Animal Beds
When handyman Amarildo Silva noticed a lot of discarded tires piling up in his neighborhood, the wheels in his mind started turning. Having always been a lover of animals – and like many people from his small town in remote northern Brazil, he was always looking for a way to make a few extra bucks. So Silva stumbled onto a brilliant plan.
He Had a Great Idea
He worked out a way he could not only help to beautify his neighborhood by getting rid of all the old tires that people carelessly toss aside, but he could also create a happy place people’s pets could call home.
He Would Kill Two Birds With One Stone
When you can find a way to make some extra money while providing a little ray of sunshine in people’s and animals lives, and at the same time get rid of some ugly trash, you’ve got to go for it, or at least that’s what Silva thought. Here’s how he went about creating Caominhas Pets.
From Trash To Treasure
Two years ago, Amarildo noticed that in his countryside town, people tossed their old tires in the street. They kept piling up and taking away from the natural beauty of the landscape. At the same time, tires are also notorious for collecting rainwater and providing a fertile breeding ground for mosquitoes, a dangerous proposition on the edge of the Brazilian jungle where Zika and other diseases are common.
The First Step
The idea was so brilliant not only because it turned garbage into happiness for people’s pets, but also because creating these beds is a super simple process, but very clever at the same time. First Amarildo has to cut off one side wall of the tire to start off.
You Reap What You Sow
After custom-painting the prepped tire with the pet’s name, Amarildo sews the cushy bed itself. Having secured the actual bed “frame” for free via the discarded tires, the fabric and sewing machine are his only out-of-pocket costs.
All Shapes And Sizes
Truck tires make excellent beds for big dogs, while regular car tires are perfect for small dogs and cats. Although in some households, cats would definitely steal one of these massive truck tire beds from the dog!
Rolling Rolling Rolling
Amarildo has even dedicated an entire room in his house to storing tires which he plans on using later on to make more beds, as demand is at an all-time high.
Bela doesn’t look like she quite understands what’s going on here, but you can tell she loves her comfy bed! She’s even kind enough to share it with her stuffed bear.
Mimosas for Mimoza, Please
Mimoza looks like a princess who’s ready to be pampered in her fancy new bed! Could we get a cocktail and some tuna over here, please?
A Dog Bed Built For Two
Aylla and Lua don’t’ seem to mind sharing their bed, and there’s still room to spare for these happy munchkins!
Another Satisfied Customer
Now that’s one happy guy! It looks like Baruck couldn’t be more pleased with his new bed. Now, away with you, hooman, it’s time for my nap!
